Sensei Ohashi

In Japanese the name “Ohashi” means “big bridge”. The perfect symbol for someone who has devoted his life to bringing Eastern modes of healing to the West.

Founder of the Ohashiatsu® Institute in 1974 in New York (USA), Master Ohashi experimented very young with traditional oriental medicine on himself. It is inspired by practices such as Aikido, dance and Zen philosophy.

Ohashi’s experience with traditional oriental healing began in his infancy. Born in 1944, near Hiroshima, Japan, his weak constitution made him vulnerable to illness. As a young child his strength was restored and is maintained by healing techniques central to his teachings.

Believing that the Eastern concept of health can benefit 21st century men and women, Ohashi has dedicated himself to the teaching and practice of this philosophy.

He is the author of Do-It-Yourself Shiatsu; Zen Shiatsu, with Masunaga; Reading the Body: Ohashi’s Book of Oriental Diagnosis; Beyond Shiatsu: Ohashi’s Bodywork Method; Natural Childbirth, The Eastern Way and Touch For Love: Shiatsu for Your Baby. He has also produced 12 educational DVDs.

His clients have included Seiji Ozawa, Giovanni Agnelli, Dr. Henry Kissinger, Muhammad Ali, Liza Minnelli, Japanese Prime Minister Masayoshi Ōhira and Martha Graham among other.

Ohashi says he learns from his clients and his students and feels honored to know all of them.
